Bate
Collection of Musical Instruments
In 1963 Philip Bate donated its extensive collection
of European orchestral wind instruments to the Oxford
University. Since then, the collection wa increased
thanks to loans and donations. This allows the students
to experiment with these old musical instruments. It
also has several keyboards, like a harpsichord used
by Haydn in his time in Oxford. Among the exotic instruments
donated to the collection outstands a Javanese gamelan.
